New Assisi Hospice
to have more
beds & meet patients' special
needs
SINGAPORE: The new Assisi Hospice, to be ready in 2016, will have increased bed capacity and will meet patients’ special needs.
The new hospice, located next to the existing Assisi Hospice at Thomson Road, will more than double its current capacity of 37 inpatient beds to 85.
It will also include a specialised 16-bed ward for dementia patients requiring palliative care and a dedicated paediatric palliative care ward.
These two wards will be the first of their kind in Singapore.
At the official groundbreaking ceremony of the new hospice on Monday morning, Health Minister Gan Kim Yong said by 2020, Singapore can expect to have more than 10,000 patients in need of end-of-life care.
The new hospice, he said, is thus timely to support the needs of the community.
The building will also cater to more patients at the day centre and expand its home care team from three to five.
Other new services include the setting up of the Centre for Palliative Care Education and Therapy.
